I like how this definition of Informatics states it. From Wikipedia, it says Informatics is "studying how to design a system that delivers the right information, to the right person in the right place and time, in the right way". That means acquiring, organizing and presenting information. Over the 20 years I've been doing this professionally, the sheer variety of things that encompass "information", the volume of that information, and the tools to acquire, organize, store, analyze and present have all expanded exponentially. I always used to think that if I could just learn it all, then I would be good. The reality was that I only really learned in depth the things that I needed to actually solve the problems that I was working on. In this space, I'm going to continue in that vein with attacking information that I'm interested in, learning by doing, and trying to add to what I've learned in the past 20 years.
